Doctor and Attorney

A native of California's central coast, Douglas Malcolm has a breadth of experience that he brings to his legal practice.  After graduating from Stanford University in 1978 with degrees in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, he worked as a management consultant in the healthcare sector for Andersen Consulting before moving to Salt Lake City and working for a telephone crisis intervention service and a Hospice before earning a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah in 1986 as a graduate from their Family Practice Honors Program.  Dr. Malcolm then completed an internship in Massachusetts for internal medicine, and a three year residency in Emergency Medicine at a high volume trauma center in California, during which time he worked on system issues to improve patient flow through the emergency department.  Since the completion of his residency, Dr. Malcolm has worked in several high volume and acuity emergency departments as a staff physician and an emergency department director all over California, in addition to being board certified in Emergency Medicine, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, and Neonatal Advanced Life Support.



After seeing patients turned away from hospitals for inability to pay and being denied post-operative care, Dr. Malcolm decided to enroll in law school to do insurance bad faith law.  In 2002 he graduated from law school with honors whilst simultaneously running an emergency department.



Since 2003, Dr. Malcolm has applied his expertise toward  representing people in medical malpractice and some personal injury cases.  With an intimate knowledge of the medical world, broad legal experience, and a systems approach tempered with his lengthy experience helping people both as a doctor and as a volunteer with a crisis intervention service, he has fashioned his law practice to be both sensitive and appropriate to his clients' needs.
